Blackpool Pleasure Beach – Valhalla Boat Redesign

Project Overview

Fibre Moulds was commissioned by Blackpool Pleasure Beach to transform and redesign an existing ride boat for the iconic Valhalla attraction.

The objective was to convert an ageing brown ride boat into a striking Viking-inspired vessel that complemented the immersive theme of the attraction while maintaining the functionality of the original structure.

The redesign required a combination of creative fabrication, detailed finishing and practical engineering to create a completely new appearance without replacing the existing boat.

The Challenge

The project involved working with an existing ride vehicle and transforming it into something visually impressive while retaining its original structural integrity.

One of the key challenges was creating realistic timber plank detailing across the boat's exterior. The finish needed to convincingly replicate traditional Viking ship construction while being durable enough for a demanding attraction environment.

The design also required the addition of bespoke decorative features, including a Viking dragon head at the bow and a traditional carved swirl detail at the stern.

Achieving a realistic wood-grain effect across large fibreglass surfaces required extensive development and careful finishing techniques.

Our Solution

Fibre Moulds managed the redesign and fabrication process from concept development through to completion.

The existing vessel was modified and enhanced with:

• Hand-crafted timber plank detailing

• Viking dragon head feature

• Decorative stern scrollwork

• Surface texturing and finishing

• Complete visual transformation of the original boat

Particular attention was given to developing the wood-grain effect. Detailed surface texturing techniques were used to create the appearance of traditional timber construction while retaining the durability and longevity of fibreglass.

Each decorative element was carefully integrated into the existing structure to create a cohesive Viking-inspired design.

Manufacture & Development

The project was completed over approximately six months.
