Whoville – Grinch Themed Christmas Installation
Project Overview
Fibre Moulds was commissioned to design, manufacture and install a large-scale Whoville-themed Christmas installation inspired by the world of the Grinch.
The project was created for a seasonal event that returns annually, requiring a durable and visually striking installation capable of being assembled, displayed and reused year after year.
The scope included the manufacture of multiple themed elements, including the Grinch's car, Mount Crumpit-inspired scenery and decorative Whoville streetscapes, all designed to create an immersive festive experience for visitors.
The Challenge
The project involved creating a variety of large-scale decorative features while maintaining the distinctive whimsical style associated with Whoville.
One of the most significant technical challenges involved securely fixing decorative baubles and themed elements to the structures. Standard adhesive systems proved unreliable due to the materials involved and the long-term durability requirements of the installation.
The project required extensive testing and problem solving to develop a solution that would provide a strong, lasting bond while maintaining the desired finish.
Our Solution
Fibre Moulds managed the project from concept development through manufacture and final installation.
The structures were initially created using foam forms, which were then shaped, detailed and reinforced during the fabrication process. Each element was manufactured to achieve the exaggerated architectural style and playful character associated with the Whoville theme.
To overcome the bonding challenges, various adhesive systems were tested before a bespoke solution was developed. By combining resin and gelcoat, a custom bonding material was created that provided the strength and durability required for the decorative features.
This practical problem-solving approach ensured the installation would remain robust while maintaining its visual quality.

The project demonstrates Fibre Moulds' ability to manage complex themed environments from initial concept through manufacture, finishing and installation, while solving technical challenges along the way.
By combining fabrication expertise, creative problem solving and project management, the installation continues to provide a memorable visitor experience and remains a key feature of the annual event.
